About
Pomodoro
What is it?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The name comes from the tomato-shaped kitchen timer he used as a university student.Pomodoro is Italian for tomato.
The core idea is simple: break work into focused 25-minute intervals separated by short breaks. This trains your brain to focus on demand and prevents mental fatigue.
How it works
Pick a task you want to work on.
Set a timer for 25 minutes and work on nothing else.
When the timer rings, take a 5-minute break.
Every 4 rounds, take a longer break of 15–30 minutes.
After the break, pick your next task and repeat.
Track your progress — each completed round is one 🍅.
Rules
- Interruptions break the pomodoro. If something forces you to stop before the timer rings, that round does not count — restart from zero.
- No splitting. A pomodoro is indivisible. If a task takes less than 25 minutes, pair it with another small task.
- Actually rest during breaks. Step away from the screen — stretch, breathe, grab water.
